My Work Interests

Current Activities:

Around half of my time is spent consulting for large organisations on their customer management/ customer information management issues. I work through either QCi, the Center for Information Based Competition or Information Answers, dependent on the nature of the project/ tools required. More on this subject can be found here.

The remainder of my time is spent developing my ideas and a number of pilot activities around 'personal information management and use' - an area which I think will become very active over the next few years. More on this subject can be found here (or at least it will when I finish it).

Background

I graduated with a degree in Marketing and Economics from Strathclyde University in 1986. Since then I have worked in direct/ database marketing, watching that evolve into 'CRM' and e-commerce. Initially I worked as Direct Marketing Manager at Wickes, the DIY and Building Supplies retailer. I then went back to Stirling University for a year to complete a Masters degree in Information Systems Management.

After that, I joined Royal Mail where I was part of, then led, the customer database team before taking on the role of Consumer Data Strategy Manager - looking mainly at new business ventures.

In 2000 I moved on in order to investigate some new ideas I had, and have been consulting in the customer information space since then.
